All are well!
Seems there may have been someone up to dangerous mischief early Saturday morning — our garbage can was set afire around 3 a.m., and it, in turn, started the garage on fire. Luckily, we live across the street from the fire department who was there within 2 minutes and put it out. There was a garden flag set on fire in a neighbor’s yard around the block as well.
No one was hurt and the house will be up to snuff soon enough!!
Putting a smile on the house
The house (front poor in particular) was suffering, victim to midwest winters and our woeful neglect… so we finally rolled up our sleeves this past Thursday through Sunday and gave the porch and my office entry area an new lease on life. The 98 degrees conspired to lessen our resolve and slow our pace — but we would not be mocked by humorless humidity. LOTS of water breaks and we moved steadily along.
The outcome? A pretty porch and deep satisfaction.
Heavy-Metal Mama?
Got an message via facebook today, letting me know that I have a fresh album review out there in cyberspace. What makes it real fun for me, is the fact that it is on a hard rock/heavy metal site, ballbustermusic.com. As you probably know, I am far from being a heavy-metal mama, so I was certainly curious about what the reviewer would have written. I was stoked. See excerpt below (full review on their website). Paul Autry (reviewer)… thanks, man!
Review: Paper Knife
“…I spent part of my childhood with a family who listened to nothing but “religious music” and I couldn’t get into any of it. It was old, tired and stale beyond words. Now, I’m not here to talk about what people believe in or what they don’t believe in. But, if you’re going to sing about…shall we say…issues of a spiritual nature…the music should be able to lift you up…not put you to sleep. I want the music to make me feel good inside and that’s what I get when I listen to Kim-Char Meredith’s album, “Paper Knife.”
This disc was a real good pick me up. What really drew me in is the fact that it doesn’t come off as preachy. It’s more like a celebration of something that’s greater than all of us. The lyrics actually mean something…they have substance…and I think a lot of people can relate to them…regardless of what they believe in. – Paul Autry, Spotlight July/Aug 2010, BallBusterMusic.com
Periradicular post
Hey, thank you to everyone who called and emailed to express concern about the “mouth thing.” I’m on day 10 of the Augmentin and finished the steroids a few days back… that nasty abscess that formed almost instantaneously on my upper gums the night of the show with Amy burst early Sunday and sent me to urgent care that morning. Sigh. Doc says my only real option (if that periradicular cyst between my mouth and nose continues being ornery) is pulling the tooth and removing the troublesome growth. Below is an “enhanced” pic showing one tooth-replacement option…
New Cigar Box Guitar crafted by Chris Ellbogen
Chris Ellbogen just finished crafting me a custom CIGAR BOX GUITAR – I am stoked! He used some pieces of koa wood that Pete had given to Parker, so it is quite special — and it sounds amazing! Here is video of the new instrument… Gotta name my new baby — any suggestions???
APRIL 28 Update:
Snip-Snip
I finally had my hair done yesterday… after wearing it pulled back in a ponytail for these past few months. Sure, I could post a pic of the new do, but you’ll see that soon enough; so for now, a pic and final farewell to the hair left behind… although it does look like it could crawl off and continue to have a life all its own, lol… Yes, there was more hair on the ground than on my head, when all was said ‘n done…
Up my nose with a rubber hose!

I’ll admit it… I was not happy about having Dr. Kaszuba put a camera up my nose but a CT scan earlier this week revealed the cause of a persistent, extremely painful ache in my upper front tooth… a cyst growing below my nose and above my mouth that needed closer inspection. Dr. Kaszuma believes it to be a periradicular cyst that is inflamed and prescribed more aggressive course of antibiotics and steroids to hopefully calm this puppy down! This inflamation was precipitated by a nasty sinus infection, although the cyst has probably been there for awhile, Dr. noted. Sigh. Well, I’m trusting all will respond well to the meds… the alternative he mentioned is not so appealing to me – pulling the tooth (!), removing the cyst, etc. He mentioned that second option and the poster for “The Hangover” flashed in my mind… you know the one:

By the way, notice Dr. Kazsuba’s nurse… “Yeah, yeah… seen the inside of one nose, you’ve seen ‘em all…”
